The Supreme Courts ruling in favor of anti same-sex marriage baker might open up potential descrimination.
The court ruled 7-2 in favor of the baker who refused to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple in a test of the country’s religious freedom laws.
Justices Ginsburg and Sotomayor opposed the ruling. At this time though its not giving a license to discriminate yet… This ruling did though specifically addressed this case that was in front of the court only.
Justice Anthony Kennedy, a swing vote voted with the majority and wrote the ruling.
“Today’s ruling chips aways at one of America’s most basic values for the last 50 years – the freedom to expect that a business will serve all customers without discrimination.”
Even Right Leaning Gays should recognize that we should not stand for descrimination and be wary that even while the Court’s decision does not create a new license to discriminate, it also does not address the discrimination that millions of Gay Americans still face.
There is still is the big issue for us all both left and right leaning gays that more than half the country, our state laws do not explicitly protect LGBT Americans from discrimination restaurants/stores, in the workplace, or in housing.
Gays For Trump and Right leaning gays must still watch out for religious and other groups that could attempt to use this ruling to corrupt local and state nondiscrimination protections nationwide.
This is not good for any of the Gay community. This for one is a reason that though the liberal gay community may think that right leaning gays are selling out the community by siding more to the right that we all face these issues together.
The right leaning gays very much respect the right to to life liberty and the persuit of happiness. Ruling like the Supreme Courts could work against these principles.
For example what if the next case is a owner of a bowling alley or facility that caters to birthday parties. Then what happens when a same-sex couple that has a child is told due to a religious belief their child is not allowed. Ok you might say well go somewhere else for the business but lets say make it even worse and lets say its the only place in town what do you do then? These are the types of situations/scenarios that are coming. This is why this decision is alarming.
What’s next might even be the worse: all gays denied the wonderful ChickFla sandwich!
There is also the issues beyond the gay issue because religious right laws don’t just benefit Christians but can cause potential issues when the Muslims or even the flying spaghetti monster cults start denying business to infidels and the like.
So what then? Who knows what the future brings. One thing is for certain everyone in the gay community and beyond need to stay knowledgeable about what might be coming and be prepared to research enough to understand just which side works best for our Constitution and our well being.
One thing is for certain and we know the liberal gay media WILL do it. This issue is Not Trumps Fault or the VP. As well as this should not be made into a anti religious stance as well but we all know that’s coming.
What right leaning gays (or all gays) from now on need to do is work harder with all legislators to ensure laws passed do not put the gay community or any community into the potentially for descrimination. All we can do now is wait and work together to make sure that future court decisions could be made to respect all sides.
