🏛️ What’s Really Being Banned in NC?
DEI Bills Spark Confusion, Not Clarity
🚫 What North Carolina DEI Bills Are Really Banning Is Clarity, Not Radicalism
Once upon a time in a North Carolina classroom, a history teacher introduced a unit on ancient Rome. Gladiator arenas, the rise and fall of empires, and early concepts of republics. But when a student asked whether ancient Roman culture included gender fluidity and same-sex relationships, truths supported by historical records, the teacher paused. Was this now a “divisive concept”? Could that question cost her job? Under the new DEI bans, no one could say for sure. That’s not clarity. That’s censorship by confusion.
Welcome to our Constitutional Republic, where liberty dies when language gets vague and power shifts from the people to bureaucrats.
Let’s get real.
Diversity, equity, inclusion. Three words that should be about fairness and opportunity, but lately, they’ve been turned into battleground buzzwords, weaponized by both the Left and the Right. Now, North Carolina finds itself at the center of the storm.
The General Assembly just passed multiple Republican-led bills that target DEI programs in K–12 schools, public universities, and state government offices. These measures now head to Democratic Governor Josh Stein, who hasn’t yet said whether he’ll veto them. If he does, the GOP-led Senate has the numbers to override it. The House might need a swing vote.
But before we decide if these bills are good or bad, we need to ask, what are they banning?
🔍 THE FACTS: WHAT THESE BILLS ACTUALLY DO
Let’s lay out exactly what the legislature passed:
Senate Bill 227
This bill bans “divisive concepts” from being taught in K–12 public schools. But what’s “divisive”? The bill doesn’t define it clearly. Discussions about slavery, religious influence on law, or yes, even Roman acceptance of same-sex unions, could suddenly be off-limits.
Senate Bill 558
This legislation eliminates DEI training and DEI offices in public colleges and universities. It strips institutions of the tools they use to address bias, recruitment gaps, and discrimination complaints. Are we really better off when we silence the structures that aim to solve legitimate problems?
House Bill 171
The most aggressive bill of all, it eliminates DEI from state agencies and attaches enforcement penalties. Government employees can now be fined, fired, or sued if they run afoul of an unclear rulebook. It’s not just reform, it’s fear-based control.
These bills have enforcement power. But they lack the specificity that makes good law.
That’s not just symbolic legislation. That’s serious enforcement.
💬 OUR TAKE: INTENTIONS VS IMPACT (Opinion)
At Gays for Trump [GaysForTrump.org] / Gay Right News [GayRightNews.com] and Go Right News [GoRightNews.com] / Go Right NC [GoRightNC.com], we support equality, merit, and freedom from forced ideological conformity, and above all, we support constitutional equality and fairness for all. But we’re also aware that DEI, in practice, has become bloated with ideology, often used to shame people rather than unify them.
Still, let’s not throw the baby out with the bathwater.
We understand why conservatives are wary. DEI has, at times, been hijacked by activists pushing identity politics over individual merit. DEI in practice can drift far from its original mission, turning into forced groupthink, shaming rather than understanding, or prioritizing identity over merit.
We’ve all seen examples:
🧮 Students asked to rank themselves by privilege.
🧼 Hiring policies that seem more about quotas than qualifications.
🧮 Gender politics slipped into science and math classes.
🧼 Safe spaces replacing accountability
🚫 Students silenced or punished for holding traditional or religious views
So yes, we understand the pushback, and conservatives have good reason to be cautious.
But here’s the danger: These bills are written so vaguely that they may not just ban ideological indoctrination, they may also censor historical truths. So, when laws are so vague that they scare educators away from discussing actual history, including LGBTQ+ existence in ancient cultures like Rome or Greece, we’ve crossed a line.
These laws don’t just target woke activism; they risk silencing truth itself.
Are we protecting students when teachers fear discussing?
The Trail of Tears
Japanese internment camps
Slavery and segregation
…because they might get fired or sued?
That’s not education. That’s whitewashing.
Let’s be honest, if a teacher is afraid to mention the Trail of Tears, or Japanese internment camps, or slavery because they might be sued or fired, that’s not protecting freedom. That’s erasing our own American history.
🎯 THE REAL DANGER: CONFUSION = CONTROL (Opinion)
Vagueness is not an accident. It’s a strategy.
When the law doesn’t define the boundaries, bureaucrats do.
That’s dangerous in a Constitutional Republic where laws are supposed to protect citizens from arbitrary enforcement.
Imagine this:
A teacher skips over Roman culture’s open attitudes toward sexuality to avoid being “controversial.”
A professor of philosophy avoids talking about gender roles in ancient societies out of fear of DEI violation reports.
A state employee is penalized for including inclusive workplace tips in a training packet.
This isn’t about stopping indoctrination anymore. It’s about empowering state officials to decide what is and isn’t acceptable thought.
And that’s a recipe for tyranny, whether it’s coming from the Left or the Right.
If lawmakers want to ban specific abuses, like forced pronoun use, race-based hiring quotas, or activist grading systems, then write laws that target those practices specifically.
Blanket bans on “DEI” mean something different to every person, school, and agency. That vagueness isn’t a bug; it’s a feature. It allows unelected bureaucrats to decide what crosses the line, and that’s a dangerous power to give any government. It opens the door for unelected state officials to enforce personal interpretations of what’s “divisive.”
And that is the very kind of government overreach conservatives claim to oppose.
We don’t need state-led purges. We need measured, targeted reform.
⚖️ FINAL WORD: HISTORY ISN’T HATE SPEECH
You can reject woke nonsense without banning real facts.
You can push back against indoctrination without pulling the plug on intellectual discussion.
We are a Constitutional Republic, not a culture-policing dictatorship.
✅ We can call out activist overreach
✅ We can defend individual merit
✅ And we can still discuss the full truth, including that gender fluidity and homosexuality existed in ancient cultures thousands of years ago
Erasing that history doesn’t make us stronger. It makes us ignorant.
It’s not “un-American” to oppose DEI dogma.
But it is un-American to suppress discussion, intimidate educators, and risk erasing the parts of our history that make us think, reflect, and improve.
Our Constitutional Republic was built on the freedom to disagree and the duty to understand one another.
This country was built on the idea that we don’t have to agree, but we do have to understand.
If Republicans in North Carolina want to win over independents and principled conservatives, they should refine these bills, not rubber-stamp vague language that opens the door to bureaucratic overreach.
If Republicans in North Carolina want to win hearts, minds, and elections, they need to revise these bills with clarity, not leave them to be weaponized by future bureaucracies.
✅ We can protect merit
✅ We can fight indoctrination
✅ And we can still tell the truth about our past
We don’t need a purge, we need precision.
Let’s not trade one kind of overreach for another.

These DEI Bans Might Backfire on Conservatives If They Keep Trusting Vague Laws to Fix Radical Problems
My fellow patriots, let me speak to you directly, not as a politician, not as a pundit, but as a Constitutionalist who has spent years fighting for liberty, limited government, and the unapologetic truth.
Look, I understand the frustration. I feel it too. Every time I see a student disciplined for refusing to declare pronouns or a job application that puts identity politics above qualifications, I shake my head. DEI, what was once a well-intentioned push for inclusion, has been hijacked. It’s been twisted into a vehicle for social control. Into a club used to divide us, not unite us.
But here’s where I have to hit the brakes on this new wave of legislation coming from our own side.
You don’t fight indoctrination with vagueness.
You don’t protect our kids by paralyzing our teachers.
And you damn sure don’t win the culture war by abandoning the truth.
We live in a Constitutional Republic, not a banana republic. If we’re going to use the power of legislation, it better be laser-focused. It better be rooted in principle, not paranoia.
Because here’s the hard truth: the moment you pass a law so broad, so ill-defined, that a high school history teacher feels scared to mention same-sex relationships in Roman culture, not because it’s false, but because someone might be offended, you’re not winning. You’re becoming the very thing we’re fighting against.
We’re conservatives. We’re supposed to be the adults in the room.
We don’t govern by feelings. We govern by facts.
We don’t silence uncomfortable truths. We debate them.
We don’t dodge history. We confront it, and we teach it, honestly.
Now I know some Republicans think this kind of vague legislation is a quick fix to the woke virus infecting our institutions. But I’m warning you: this is a trap.
Because vague laws don’t stay pointed at the Left, eventually, they circle back. Today, they’re used to muzzle radical activists. Tomorrow, they’ll be used to silence constitutional conservatives.
That’s how power works. When you give the state a loaded weapon and no instructions, someone else pulls the trigger.
We’ve been down this road before. History tells us what happens when speech gets filtered through government interpretation. It doesn’t lead to liberty; it leads to tyranny dressed in red, white, and blue.
So here’s what I’m saying to every lawmaker in Raleigh and beyond:
If you’re serious about protecting our kids, write laws that do exactly that. Ban forced pronouns, ban activist grading, ban race-based hiring, but be specific. Be measured. Be honest.
Don’t hand the government a blank check and call it reform.
I’ll say it again for the people in the back:
Liberty demands specificity.
Truth demands courage.
Conservatism demands clarity.
Let’s not turn “anti-woke” into anti-truth.
Let’s not trade one form of authoritarianism for another.
Let’s not censor Rome to protect Raleigh.
We can be bold without being blind.
So to my fellow conservatives: lead smarter. Legislate sharply. Fight cleaner.
Because the future of education, the truth of history, and the soul of our Constitutional Republic depend on it.

🔚 Don’t Ban the Conversation, Lead It
The purpose of education is to inspire thought, not suppress it.
Roman history included military strategy, political revolution, and yes, same-sex relationships and gender nonconformity. That’s not ideology. That’s a historical fact.
Don’t let vague language erase real knowledge.
Speak up. Demand clarity. Insist on liberty.
Because when you silence the truth, even with good intentions, you empower tyranny.

🧠 THE REAL DISASTER: MOST PEOPLE DIDN’T EVEN READ THIS
Here’s the frustrating truth: most of the people criticizing these DEI bills, or defending them, never even read the full text of the legislation, let alone this article.
They’re quick to judge, quick to comment, and even quicker to dismiss, just like the bureaucrats we claim to oppose.
And it’s not just the Left anymore. Too many conservatives now throw around words like “fake news” and “misinformation” without even glancing at the facts. That kind of blind tribalism doesn’t defend liberty; it destroys it.
At Go Right News, we exist to break that cycle.
We don’t just repeat talking points; we challenge them. We don’t toe the party line; we follow the Constitution. Yes, we lean Right. But we’re not afraid to call out extremism, expose hypocrisy, or defend the truth, even if it’s unpopular.
This article isn’t about choosing sides; it’s about choosing principles.
Because if we want better laws, better leadership, and a better country, we’ve got to stop reacting and start thinking.
That’s why it’s time to #GoRight.
Not just politically. Constitutionally. Intellectually. Truthfully.
This powerful exposé dives into the reality behind North Carolina’s new DEI bills, unraveling the vague language that could silence teachers, whitewash history, and chill classroom discussions on topics like ancient Roman culture and LGBTQ+ history. With insight from Peter Boykin and a Constitutionalist perspective, this piece challenges both Right and Left to think deeper and legislate smarter, before freedom of thought becomes collateral damage in a culture war.

We’re not here to play into false binaries. Go Right News stands to defend the Constitution—truthfully, unapologetically, and without fear of offending either side. We lean right, but we’re not afraid to call out extremism, hypocrisy, or double standards wherever they hide.
We give you the facts, the contrast, and the Constitutional context—because this is more than politics. It’s a movement.
