Why America Celebrates Pride But Forgets Our Military – The Truth They Don’t Want You to Hear!
May is filled with meaningful observances that often go unnoticed, especially when it comes to honoring our military. Meanwhile, June’s Pride Month sparks national attention, sometimes controversy. But what if we stopped comparing and started celebrating both for what they represent: freedom, service, identity, and resilience? #GoRight News takes a deeper look.

The Unsung Month of Honor and Service: May’s Military Recognition
It’s a beautiful May afternoon, and the air is thick with the sound of celebration. On one hand, you have the joy of Star Wars Day, the exuberance of Cinco De Mayo, and the cheerful wave of family gatherings on Memorial Day. But here’s the issue—while we’re caught up in our festivities, are we truly paying attention to the month that’s dedicated to honoring the very people who defend the freedoms we cherish? This is National Military Appreciation Month, and yet, for too many, it’s just another overlooked occasion in a calendar full of loud, attention-grabbing events.
May is more than flowers blooming and graduations. It is National Military Appreciation Month, a time dedicated to acknowledging the men and women in uniform who serve and sacrifice for our Constitutional Republic. But while we have parades and sales, how many Americans take time to reflect on what this month represents?
Here are just some of the commemorations that fill May:
Loyalty Day / Silver Star Service Banner Day (May 1st) AKA “May Day” – A time to reaffirm allegiance to the United States and recognize those awarded the Silver Star.
Public Service Recognition Week (First full week of May) – Honors public servants, including military personnel.
V-E Day (May 8th) – Celebrates the Allied victory in Europe during WWII.
Military Spouse Appreciation Day (Friday before Mother’s Day) – Acknowledges the strength behind the uniform.
Armed Forces Week and Armed Forces Day (Second full week of May) – Honors all branches of the military.
National Maritime Day (May 22nd) – Celebrates U.S. Merchant Marines and the maritime industry.
Memorial Day (Last Monday in May) – A solemn remembrance of the fallen.
In truth, every single day in May is an opportunity to honor courage, sacrifice, and patriotism. Yet many overlook it entirely, often until Memorial Day barbecues roll around.
The Ironic Overshadow: Why Does Pride Month Get More Attention Than Our Military?
There’s an ironic twist to how we observe May and June in America. May is dedicated to honoring our military and veterans an apolitical, unifying recognition of service and sacrifice. Yet, just one month later, June becomes the center of national conversation as LGBTQ+ Pride Month, drawing both celebration and intense scrutiny, especially from critics who focus on its more radical fringes. As a proud gay man and the founder of Gays for Trump, I can’t help but ask: Why are we stuck in this false binary of Left versus Right? Why does Pride Month dominate the spotlight, while May’s military observances, something that should transcend politics, often fade quietly into the background? Shouldn’t the heroes who defend our freedoms receive just as much, if not more, attention and appreciation?
It’s odd that Pride Month in June so often overshadows the men and women who fight to defend our right to celebrate our identities freely. And here’s the frustrating truth: Many critics of Pride Month fail to acknowledge that June was not always designated for such recognition. This country once lived in a time when LGBTQ individuals were criminalized. We should all remember that.
But just as the LGBTQ community fought for its rightful place under the sun, so too should we honor those who fight and have fought for the country’s very freedoms. Why should we allow the focus to be so heavily skewed in one direction when our military, the very backbone of liberty, deserves our attention, admiration, and support every single day? May is their month, after all, and we should act like it.
June Isn’t the Enemy: Understanding the Value of Pride Month
Let’s set the record straight. Some people pit Pride Month against Military Appreciation Month, suggesting one overshadows the other. That’s a false choice and a dangerous one. We should celebrate both. Our nation is big enough for both appreciation and pride.
June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month, a time to recognize the fight for equal rights for a group that, like many others before it, has been marginalized and persecuted. Much like veterans have fought for our physical freedom, the LGBTQ community has fought for social and civil freedoms.
As the founder of Gays for Trump, I understand the tension. Every year during June, hate ramps up not just from the Left or the Right but from a general misunderstanding. The LGBTQ community isn’t a monolith. It’s not a political cult, a religion, or some coordinated agenda. It’s a group of individuals with unique perspectives, often misrepresented by radicals who dominate headlines.
To those who say, “Pride is a sin,” I say this: so are gluttony and lust, yet we celebrate Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day without question. Singing “I’m proud to be an American” is never questioned until June, when suddenly “pride” becomes offensive. That’s not logic; it’s hypocrisy.
Criticism of Extremism on Both Sides
As a Moderate Republican and Constitutionalist for Liberty, I must also point out the hypocrisy found on both sides of the political spectrum. On one hand, we have the Left, which often seeks to impose its extreme social justice views, such as the radical fringes within the LGBTQ community, into every aspect of public life, undermining individual liberty.
Yet, there are also significant issues within the Right. Many conservatives forget that we live in a Constitutional Republic that guarantees liberties not just for the religious or the traditionalist but for all people, including those with whom we may not always agree.
It’s a sad fact that within these fractured conversations, military and veterans’ issues too often fall by the wayside. While many on the Left claim to champion social issues, they all too frequently forget to support the brave men and women in uniform. On the flip side, some conservatives, too quick to denounce any government program, fail to see the broader picture of support systems and reforms that can improve the quality of life for veterans without compromising our values.
At the core of this issue is one central truth: We can respect our military and veterans without falling into the trap of extremism. Extremists who want to make Pride a political weapon or who seek to strip the rights of others should be rejected just as extremists who demonize veterans and ignore the sacrifices of our armed forces, and they should all be called out. Our Constitution provides a framework where we can discuss these issues fairly and respectfully.
#GoRight With Peter Boykin Monologue: A Speech for Liberty and Reason
Look, I get it. You’re tired. Tired of the culture wars. Tired of the yelling. Tired of being told what to think. But you know what I’m tired of? Watching my fellow Americans forget what makes this country great.
In May, we honor those who sacrificed everything for our liberty. Then in June, we honor those who fought for equality and another kind of liberty. Why are we acting like we have to choose one over the other?
I’m a gay man. I’m a Republican. I’m a Constitutionalist. That’s not a contradiction, it’s a conviction. Because liberty means the freedom to be who you are, to speak your mind, to serve your country, and to live without fear.
This country was born not in a finished state but in a promise—a promise of “We the People.” It took years to reach women, Black Americans, immigrants, and the LGBTQ community. We must never forget that.
So if you’ve got a flag, wave it. If you’ve got a story, share it. If you’ve got love for this country, prove it not just by words, but by actions. Thank a veteran. Support civil rights. Be the bridge between red and blue.
Don’t let anyone tell you who to be, how to vote, or what side to pick. Be American. Be proud. Be informed.
And most of all, Go Right not just in politics, but in life. Because doing right, thinking right, being right, and voting right, that’s what it takes to keep this Republic strong.
A Call for Unity in the Great American Experiment
The United States is a Constitutional Republic, not a democracy by mob rule. We are the Great Experiment, a nation built on the promise of liberty, not perfection. Over time, we’ve extended that promise to Black Americans, to women, to immigrants, and yes, to LGBTQ citizens.
This isn’t about Left or Right. It’s about doing what’s right. That’s the essence of #GoRight, not just politically, but morally, culturally, and intellectually.
We must stop viewing America in black and white. Most of the truth lies in the grey, in the tension between liberty and order, tradition and progress, individual freedom and collective responsibility.
